What this demo is doing
The card is a real 48 pt triplex build. Three plies of uncoated stock bonded around a colored center sheet, which is why the edge reads as a stripe rather than a line. Paper tooth, the deboss around the foil, and the polish of the stamp are separate material channels, so the foil catches the light while the stock stays dead matte beside it.
Two large softboxes light the scene. They aren’t objects in the frame - they exist in the environment, so what you see is their reflection travelling across the foil as the card turns. That travelling highlight is the whole reason foil looks like foil.
Swapping finish re-authors the surface, not just the color: Carbon gets a twill weave in its roughness, Brushed Metal becomes metal end to end with the mark etched into it instead of stamped on top.
Obsidian is a fictional brand built to demonstrate the product.
